The linear actuator can be controlled with CAN Bus using a USB to CAN Bus interface board.
This approach is described here.

                         CAN Bus connector

The blue wire connects the CAN High signal (pin 1)
The brown wire connects the CAN Low signal (pin 4)
Pin 5 is the signal Ground
There is a jumper connecting pins 2 and 3 (CAN Termination Jumper)


In this case the actuator is controlled by a Personal Computer (or similar device)
through a USB port. We rely on the availability of a suitable interface board for this
to work. Fortunately a company called Copperhill Technologies offers a range of
CAN Bus boards.

The USB to CAN Bus board used here is an earlier version of several boards
now available through Copperhill Technologies.

Copperhill Technologies offer source code for a test program to manager the
CAN Bus. This is written in C# and can be used as the basis for custom software
development. The main screen of this program is shown below.
